Many people who use PlayStation 4 and PC may be wondering how they can use a PS4 controller on their PC. Whether it is for experiencing PC games with the astonishing DualShock PS4 controller or playing your favourite PlayStation games on the PC, the process of using your PS4 controller on PC is very simple and easy to do.

Of course, when attempting to do this, there are multiple items that you will need in order for it to work. The first thing you will need is the controller. Any PlayStation 4 controller will work for this. Obviously, you will also need a PC (can be Windows, Mac or other) to use the controller on, and a USB cable.

There a number of simple steps you need to follow in order to use your PS4 controller on your PC. They are as following:

Download DS4Windows – this software makes using your PS4 controller on your PC extremely easy. This software is necessary as without it, your controller won’t be compatible. This is because the software tricks your PC into thinking that your PS4 controller is an Xbox 360 controller (which is compatible with your PC). You can download DS4Windows from the GitHub page.

Install DS4Windows – once you have downloaded DS4Windows online, you need to install it. To do this, you simply need to find the zip-file within your folders/files. Once you have found it, right click on the zip-file and press on “extract all”. This will cause a window to appear asking you to extract the files to a different folder (do so). Once extracted, there will be two files within the folder for you to use: DS4Updater.exe (this keeps DS4Windows constantly updated) and DS4Windows.exe. Open DS4Windows.exe to begin the setup process.

Finish setting up DS4Windows – once the setup process has begun, it will ask you where you want to save your settings. Once this is done, it will ask to install the DS4 driver so that you can use your PS4 controller on Windows 8 and upwards. You can also install a driver for Windows 7 and below, all you need to do in order to do this is press “install 360 driver”.

Connect your controller to your PC – once the installation is fully complete, you can now connect your PS4 controller to your PC. This can be done with either a USB cable or Bluetooth. To connect with a USB cable, all you need to do is plug the compatible USB cable into your controller and PC. Then, the PC should detect it and connect the controller to the PC. Also, as the PS4 controller uses Bluetooth, it can connect to your PC wirelessly (as long as your PC has a Bluetooth receiver). Just simply hold the PlayStation central button and the share button on the PS4 controller at the same time for three seconds, until the lightbar on the controller starts flashing. Then open security and maintenance in your settings and search into the search bar “Bluetooth”. Then under devices and printers, press on “add a Bluetooth device” and find your controller. Then your controller should connect wirelessly.

After following these steps, you should be able to quickly and easily connect your PS4 controller to your PC. Allowing you to play games online on your PC while using the very powerful PS4 DualShock controller.
