How do The Game Awards work?
The Game Awards is an annual award ceremony which was founded in 2014, that celebrates the achievements from the video game industry from the past year. Winners are decided by different categories like game of the year awards, best performance, and best adaption. A voting jury of the news media and input from players choose who win. This year, the Game Awards was held on December 7th, 2023, hosted by Geoff Keighley, the creator and producer of The Game Awards. It was held with a live audience at the Peacock Theater in LA, California with millions of viewers watching over livestream.

By looking at the results, it is very clear that Baldur’s Gate 3 had a very successful year taking home over 5 awards. Due to this success, suddenly Larian Studios surprise launched Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox immediately after the show. Besides Baldur’s Gate 3, other successful games included Alan Wake 2 and Forza Motorsport. Marvels Spider-Man 2 was expected to have a successful outcome at the awards, however despite being nominated for 7 awards the game actually won 0.
