Cosmi: Forbidden Forests Game Review

Cosmi: Forbidden Forests Game Review

Cosmi: Forbidden Forests is a game released on May 27th 2025, by American publisher Cosmi on PS5, Switch and PC. You may be thinking however, that Forbidden Forest sounds extremely familiar. And you'd be correct! The game originated in 1983 on the Commodore 64, but it's back and better than ever! But is it worth it? Let's take a look at the new game and see if it lives up to its old hype.

What is Cosmi Forbidden Forests?

Cosmi: Forbidden Forests is described as a game for 'casual gamers', it's a collection of new-and-old classic C64 games and includes everything from shooter games to platform adventures and simulation games! The focus of the collection is (hint: the game title) Forbidden Forests, which is as we said, a remastered edition of the 1983 edition. In the game, players are stuck in the Forbidden Forest and must defend themselves using a simple bow and arrow. Enemy creatures are making their way towards you; it's your job to stay alive. The game ends with a final boss; the mysterious Demogorgon and it's up to you to slay it!

What is included in the game?

As we said, the game is a collection of 10 popular Cosmi games. But what exactly do you get included when you buy this game? Here are the 10 legendary games available from 1983-1989:

  • Forbidden Forest - 1983
  • Beyond the Forbidden Forest - 1985
  • Aztec Challenge - 1983
  • Caverns of Khafka - 1984
  • Seal - 1989
  • Deltra Man - 1986
  • Chomp! - 1989
  • Chernobyl: Nuclear Power Plant Simulation - 1988
  • Spite & Malice - 1986
  • Navcom 6: The Persian Gulf Defense - 1988

The games can switch between the remastered edition of the games and the original version whilst you're actually playing. We think this is great because you can compare graphics, revisit childhood nostalgia or simply play the game through a new lens (or should we say graphics). The collection also includes a medieval-style remake of Forbidden Forest with brand-new graphics and audio and a trove of archived bonus material. We love that you get extra add-ons with the game, not just a remade excuse.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, we're really excited to see this game get the spotlight it deserves. We love how the developers have focussed on the nostalgia and history of the game, although it's a remastered edition, the new gaming elements don't completely take over the game. The game doesn't strip the predecessor of its authenticity but instead elevates these features. The fact we're treated to 10 new games too is also a lovely bonus; most game collections would include 5-7 games with an 'expansion/bonus type pack' also available for a separate price. Will you be checking out the game, we can't wait to hear your thoughts, tell us in the comments!
