Subway Sim 2 was released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on April 29th, 2025. It's a sequel to the original Subway Sim game released in 2023 and is described as a subway management simulation game. When the original game released, it was added into the very niche category of games which is 'train simulation games', which are more popular than you'd think. This is a very competitive gaming genre and if done right Subway Sim 2 has the potential to soar above the competition.
The second game was confirmed after extremely positive feedback on the release of the MEGA update, Aerosoft and developer Simuverse decided to introduce Subway Sim 2. So in this blog, we dive into the new release and analyse some of its best and worst features to see if it's really hit the mark in such a niche and particular gaming genre. Let's get into it.

What is subway sim 2?
Subway Sim 2 is based in Germany, taking players through the gorgeous cities of Hamburg and Berlin. The game explores three picturesque and stunning underground lines where gamers must live their daily life in a German metropolis discovering famous sights like Hamburg's harbour or Berlin's Oberbaum Bridge. Gamers are put in control of the subway network which features 41km of recreated track, 51 realistic stations and 3 detailed vehicles.
Does Subway Sim 2 have good graphics?
Many other gamers have already agreed that the game looks great and is a brilliant addition to the market on console. The graphics and design structure of the game are aspects we need to delve into. It has gorgeously detailed locations that make the player feel the responsibilities of an actual train driver. The realism in the graphics is great as it feels like a genuine location with picture-like-settings. We get to see some gorgeous, realistic sights of Germany as well whilst we navigate the city.
Another factor of the game we appreciate is how quickly the sequel was raised. The first game was released in 2023 (which we've already stated), and it only took Aerosoft 2 years to release the sequel. At the start of April 2025, it was announced a sequel was coming, and it then was revealed the game was coming at the end of the same month. We appreciate the fact the game has been created and released in such a short time frame, considering some games take years and years for a sequel to finally be made. We just hope this one is worth it to players.
Is Subway simulator good?
However, whilst the game is great in terms of graphics and general gameplay, some players have concerns regarding the previous game's reputation. For Subway Sim 1, many gamers complained the game was overpriced and compared to the quality and gameplay it wasn't worth it. Many gamers have stated they feel reluctant to buy the new game due to these past worries. Currently, the game is available for £30, so will it be a waste of money? It's time to find out.
Many other gamers are also worried because the train simulator gaming genre is already oversaturated. With big names like Train Sim World 5 and Train Simulator Classic 2024 releasing in the last couple of years, did we really need another train simulator game?

Conclusion:
In conclusion, whilst the new game is great with some gorgeous graphics and beautiful scenery, it isn't anything special compared to the crowded gaming genre. The original game performed well however was left with some mixed criticism due to it not being worth the price, and with this game taking only 2 years to create, we can't help but wonder if it will follow in the original game's footsteps. We do think this game is worth a play, however, compared to other train simulator games, it's nothing that stands out.
