Our Ten Favourite Game Reveals of the Summer So Far

Our Ten Favourite Game Reveals of the Summer So Far-Custom Controllers UK

The Xbox and Bethesda showcase gave us a lot to be excited about when it comes to upcoming games. And with the PlayStation State of Play and Summer Games Fest also taking place at the start of this month, there has been a lot of game reveals that have us excited. We have assembled our top 10 game reveals for this summer (so far) and a bit about them.

Forza Motorsport

Forza Horizon 5 stepped up when it came to graphics in racing games. But in Spring 2023, it looks like we are going to see some even greater improvements. And these will come through the remake of Forza Motorsport. At first glance, the game looks to be very graphically strong. Of course, there are 4K and 60fps (as per usual). But the addition of ray tracing on the track is sure to be amazing. Graphics aren’t the only thing to look forward to either. There is also going to be a new and accurate damage model, going into even the smallest of details. And a dynamic weather system and day and night cycle. These are several changes that have been requested for a long time and are sure to make the racing experience even better.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

A new trailer for Hollow Knight: Silksong was dropped at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase. Though it was originally announced in 2019, this is a big game to look forward to. Whether you played the first game or not. No release date has been confirmed yet, bit of a bummer, but we can assume it will be some in 2023. And from the look of the new trailer, it looks like Silksong will be just as strong as the first game. The gameplay and combat look very fast-paced, very smooth and fluid, along with some cool bosses and enemies that we will get to fight. It just looks brilliant, and I can’t wait.

Scorn

New gameplay for the upcoming biopunk survival horror game Scorn was also shown off. A game inspired by the work of visual artist H.R. Giger; the game looks very gory all around. Now confirmed to be released on October 21st (just in time for Halloween), the gameplay reveal does a fantastic job at showing how brutal and dark this game is going to be. Not familiar with what this game is? You take control of a humanoid on a nightmarish alien planet composed of steel, machines, flesh, and bone. A world packed with horrifying creatures that you must face in your search for answers about this dark and mysterious world.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty is a franchise that I have lost a lot of interest in over the last few years. But the new entry Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 caught my attention. Though it may be the nostalgia kicking in, MW2 looks like it is going to take a step up in the series. With a huge number of technical improvements already announced, the return of many iconic characters and the new gameplay recently shown, there is a lot to look forward to. And if you would like to learn more about the upcoming entry in this series, our recent blog covers a lot of the details. Press here if you would like to give it a read.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Resident Evil 4 was very highly rated when it first came to the PlayStation 2. And now it is getting its remake. We have already seen remakes for the 2nd and 3rd games, so this came as little surprise to some. But is something that we cannot wait for. Given the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake, I do hold high hopes for this remake as well. And given some of the quotes and recent technical upgrades, it does seem promising. It is claimed to “achieve state-of-the-art quality for a survival horror suitable for 2023 while preserving the essence of the original game” (quote from PlayStation Blog).

Plague Tale Requiem

The next game coming on our list is the sequel to the 2019 action-adventure stealth game A Plague Tale: Innocence. Plague Tale: Requiem got its first gameplay reveal in the Xbox and Bethesda showcase, and it looks a bit more gruesome compared to its predecessor. Where the first focused on being smart with your movement and avoiding enemies, Requiem looks like it is now going to push it a bit further and bring in the brutal and silent action we see in most stealth games. Amicia is now equipped with a crossbow and capable of stabbing enemies while stealthily moving around. And if the story is as gripping as Plague Tale: Innocence, I am sure this game will be a hit.

Redfall

Next up on the list is the newest entry by Arkane Studios, the award-winning studio that made the likes of Prey and Dishonoured. Arkane rarely seems to miss the mark when it comes to their games, and Redfall looks to be quite promising. Redfall is an open-world co-op game (you can play single-player) and by the looks of the new gameplay reveal, it looks to have many of the charms that we are used to seeing in games from this studio. Versatile and powerful abilities, dangerous foes, and well-crafted locations and environments. It will be interesting to see how Arkane approaches a fully open-world too, with this being their first full attempt at one.

Starfield

Starfield is the talk of the town right now. Bethesda’s first IP in 25 years, and everyone is excited. And we finally got gameplay reveal over the weekend too. I think we can all agree that the ability to create your starships and bases is going to be a massive addition, and a crazy one too. And when it comes to gameplay and combat, it looks good. It does give the impression of a fallout in space kind of game. And as a big fan of Elder Scrolls and Fallout, I am looking forward to this. There is still a lot to come of course, so there are a few questions that come to mind. But those are for another time.

Diablo IV

With the recent controversy about Diablo Immortals, I did not think we would see any good news about the Diablo series so soon. But I have been pleasantly surprised. Diablo 4 gameplay was revealed at the Xbox and Bethesda showcase. Don’t worry PlayStation users as it will also be available for PS4 and PS5. And it looks like it will be just as strong as the previous entries. Powerful spells and combat, lots of dungeons to take over, a changing world, massive public events and so much more. It was also revealed shortly after the event that all microtransactions tied to this game will be cosmetic only, so we can take a breather there.

The Callisto Protocol

Last of all is the sci-fi horror game The Callisto Protocol. Coming from Striking Distance Studios, the creators of Dead Space, I have high expectations. And from the first looks and reveals of this game, it looks like it is going to be incredible. The game takes place on an alien-infested prison colony in 2320 on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. Not much is known about the story so far, but the gameplay and content revealed so far appear to be just as dark and brutal as the Dead Space games did. Can’t wait for its release on the 2nd of December.

Have we missed one? Why not drop a comment below with your favourite reveal so far. There have been a lot of big reveals, including Minecraft Legends, more Overwatch 2 details and more. And many of us are still holding onto the hope that God of War Ragnarok gets revealed soon. But until then, we have a lot of good stuff to enjoy.
