Dead Space Remake Review – One of the Best Remakes I’ve Played-Custom Controllers UK

Get ready for one of the most thrilling and terrifying gaming experiences of your life with the Dead Space remake. This masterpiece of horror gaming is one of the best remakes I have had the joy to play, featuring incredible improvements in detail, new mechanics that keep tensions high, and an immersive upgrade system. From the twisted and grotesque Necromorphs to the brutal dismemberments and atmospheric environments, this game will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Dead Space: Remake is a reimagining of the original Dead Space game. The game takes place on a massive spaceship, the Ishimura, where the player must navigate through dark and creepy corridors, solve puzzles, and fight off hordes of terrifying creatures known as Necromorphs. The game is known for its intense atmosphere, challenging gameplay, and immersive graphics and sound design. It is a must-play for fans of the horror genre and those who want a thrilling and terrifying gaming experience.

The Story

The Dead Space remake is a thrilling and intense retelling of the original story, with a renewed focus on character development and a heightened sense of horror. The main protagonist, Isaac Clarke, is portrayed as a more relatable character, as he struggles to survive against the terrifying Necromorphs while also dealing with his own inner demons. The game also delves deeper into Isaac's story, providing more insight and understanding into his state of mind and making him more interactive.

One notable change to the story in the remake is the side characters. In the original game, they were often relegated to the background, serving only as a means to advance the plot. However, in the remake, they are given more depth and personality, making them more engaging and memorable. And their voice acting is a significant improvement over the first.

The Dead Space remake manages to strike the perfect balance between staying true to the original story and introducing new elements that make it even more thrilling. The game takes place on the Ishimura spaceship and follows the same plot as the original, but it has been revamped to make the gameplay more terrifying and engaging. The improvements in atmosphere, characters, and other aspects of the game elevate the overall experience.

Heightened Atmosphere and Detail

Everything that made the original game great is taken to the next level with the Dead Space Remake. One of the most impressive aspects of the game is the heightened graphics and detail to create a terrifying atmosphere. I cannot begin to describe how good the graphics are.

The game has been completely remastered and the environments, creatures and characters look more realistic and terrifying than ever before. Obviously the high graphic and performance options are a big win and enhance the experience. But the lighting and shadows are especially impressive, and they are used to great effect to create a greater sense of unease and dread. The player feels like they are truly on a spaceship, and the attention to detail in the design is incredible.

One of note can be seen in the design of the Necromorphs. These grotesque creatures have been given a significant overhaul, with more intricate and terrifying detail that truly capture the horror of the game. Their twisted, mutated bodies are now more detailed and gruesome, making them even more horrifying to fight against.

The brutal dismemberments, in which players must strategically sever the limbs of the Necromorphs in order to defeat them, have also been greatly improved with more realistic and visceral animations. Which is just great fun.

Sound Effects

Another aspect of the game that stands out is the use of sound. The sound effects and music are well done and add to the tension and horror of the game. The sound of the Necromorphs creeping up behind you, the creaking of the ship and the eerie music that plays in the background all contribute to a masterful horror experience.

Gameplay mechanics

Another of the most impressive aspects of the game is its gameplay mechanics. The player is equipped with a variety of weapons that original players will remember, including the iconic plasma cutter. The combat is fast-paced and intense, and it requires the player to use strategy and quick reflexes to survive.

I found all the weapons in the game to be strong and effective against the enemies. The plasma cutter, in particular, is a top option. But you also have access to a variety of other weapons, such as the flamethrower and the line gun, which are effective in different situations.

One of the best improvements to me in the Dead Space Remake is to the kinesis system. In the original game, the player had to drop an item they were holding when opening a door, but in the Remake, the player can hold onto an item and still open doors. This small change makes a big difference in the gameplay as it allows the player to be more strategic in how they use their items.

The Necromorphs, are terrifying and relentless (as mentioned previously). All the various forms from the original are here, and each one requires a different approach to take down. The player must use their weapons and abilities to survive against these enemies. The game also features a variety of boss battles, which are intense and challenging throughout.

Frustrating Sections Removed

Another notable change in the remake is the reimagining of rather frustrating sequences. For example, the asteroid sequence was weaker in the original game.

In the original game, players were tasked with controlling two cannons to stop a meteor strike. This was a frustrating experience, as the turrets easily overheated and players were stuck sitting in them for an extended period of time. In the remake, the gunner sequence has been completely redesigned and reimagined.

Instead of sitting in a turret, players must now head outside and manually call the turret strikes. This adds a new level of tension and excitement to the sequence, as players must time their strikes perfectly to take out the incoming meteors. Which eliminates the frustration of the sequence in the original game.

New Mechanics and Upgrades

The Dead Space remake is a masterful horror game that keeps players on the edge of their seats with new and exciting mechanics. One I want to mention is the use of circuit breakers throughout the game to divert power to different areas. This adds an extra layer of tension to the gameplay, as players must make strategic decisions about where to allocate power.

For example, players might need to sacrifice lighting in one room in order to open a locked door in another. This creates a sense of desperation, as players must weigh each decision's pros and cons. It also adds an extra layer of realism, as players must think about how to survive in a hostile environment where resources are limited.

The Dead Space remake features a greatly improved upgrade system that adds depth and strategy to the gameplay. One of the most notable improvements is the weapon upgrade system. The original game featured empty slots in the weapons, which were kind of useless, but now, all empty slots have been removed, allowing players to focus on more beneficial upgrades. This makes the upgrade system more streamlined and efficient, allowing players to improve their weapons quickly and easily.

Another improvement is the inclusion of special abilities at the end of each upgrade path. For example, players can now upgrade their plasma cutter with incendiary rounds, which set enemies on fire and cause extra damage. This adds an extra layer of strategy to the gameplay, as players must decide which special abilities to pursue and when to use them.

Verdict

Overall, the Dead Space remake is an incredible horror game that is definitely worth the price. The improvements in detail, new mechanics, and immersive upgrade system make this game a must-play for fans of the genre. The game's twisted and grotesque Necromorphs, brutal dismemberments, well executed story and atmospheric environments all contribute to making this one of the most thrilling and terrifying gaming experiences. I give this game a solid 9 out of 10 and highly recommend it to any horror fan.
