What Is The Rog Ally X Console?

What Is The Rog Ally X Console?

It’s been 10 years of waiting for a handheld version of the Xbox console. Microsoft never gives in to constantly releasing consoles like many other companies do, but finally… they’ve listened to us. Nintendo dominated the gaming landscape over the last few years with the Nintendo Switch, and Sony got involved with the release of the iconic PS Portal. But now it’s Xbox's turn. Announced three days after the Switch 2 was released, fans gained insight into the infamous ASUS and Xbox collaboration on a handheld, the Rog Xbox Ally. It’s releasing in the holiday period, so we can guess around November or December 2025, but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk about it now!

Can you play Xbox on Asus?

To begin, let’s discuss why Xbox has decided to work with ASUS. We already knew that Xbox had chosen ASUS as their handheld collab partner. It had been revealed in a leak at the beginning of 2025, so this wasn’t a shock. ASUS are a computing company, infamous for its incredible motherboards and gaming brands. They’re known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to gaming, like Xbox, they’re also driven by innovation and want to put players first in terms of high performance and overall experience.

Is Xbox coming out with a new handheld?

Now let’s talk about the consoles, and yes we meant consoleS… because there are two. The handhelds are designed to allow gamers to play on the go, play natively, via the cloud or remotely with the Xbox controller in another room. The two consoles are called the Rog Xbox Ally and Rog Xbox Ally X. As you can guess, one has more perks than the other.

  •         Rog Xbox Ally X – The X model is the more powerful out of the two in terms of performance. It’s a gorgeous black colour with the screen in the middle and controllers on the side for the player to use. Described by Xbox, it’s ‘The ultimate high-performance handheld, built for the most demanding players’.
  •         Rog Xbox Ally – The original Ally is a modern white look, designed just like the X. Except it’s less powerful with fewer performance options. It’s described by Xbox as ‘The essential handheld at a great value for everyone from the casual player to the avid enthusiast’. We assume because this console is less powerful, it’ll most likely be cheaper… but this is just a guess.

A key aspect of the consoles we’re looking forward to is the fact they can launch and play digital Xbox games because players will be able to access their Game Pass subscription library via the cloud.

Conclusion:

So what do you think of the news? It’s what we expected, in terms of design, performance and release date. It was always rumoured a handheld would be released in 2025 besides the Switch. One aspect we’re unsure of is the price, many are labelling it as more expensive than the Switch at about £700+, we’re being more generous and saying around £500 max. Anymore and we can’t see people paying. But that’s just our opinion, what’s yours?
