The Failure Of Mindseye

The Failure Of Mindseye

As we know, video game launches are very simple. The game is sent out earlier to critics, who can play it ahead of time. They release reviews (usually positive) to build hype for the game, which in turn influences gamers to pre-order and purchase. Some games depending on how big they are, can release trailers and gameplay ahead of time to build talk amongst gamers, whilst some will preview their game at relevant gaming festivals. It’s a process, but it works.

This blog was supposed to be a game review for the new game Mindseye. But when researching the game and taking a look at some other articles, it seems like there are barely any positive reactions to the game. So instead of reviewing the good and the bad, we thought we’d take a look at Mindseye and work out, why was it a failure.

What is MindsEye?

Mindseye was released on June 10th, 2025, and is a third-person, action-adventure video game created by the new gaming company Build a Rocket Boy. Gamers take on the role of Jacob, who fights to uncover his truth in a world where AI and high-tech experimentation shape everything. It sounds like it has potential, and looking at the cover art, it looks promising. The logo looks very neat and the graphics on the cover also look very professional and exciting, with a mix of bright colours. When you check out the gameplay, that’s when it starts to slip.

It was described by a couple of fans as ‘a broken mess’ and ‘filled with glitches’, others said it had too many glitches to play. But strangely, that’s the only review we could find. Looking at the gameplay, it does look like very basic graphics, the backgrounds look like no effort has been put into them, and the fire effects look like orange mass instead of gas. It appears like a knock-off GTA game, which leads perfectly into our next section.

What is the story of the MindsEye game?

As we said, Build a Rocket Boy is a new gaming company. Issues with the game began during development, not on its release. The leader of Build a Rocket Boy is Leslie Benzies, a former Rockstar leader. (Rockstar is the company that created GTA) He’s had an input in many popular GTA games, including GTA 5 being his most successful. Some of these aspects are copied into Mindseye. When Benzies did leave Rockstar, for reasons we don’t know, they were involved in a legal battle together which made the atmosphere between the two creators very sour. We can’t help but wonder if this caused some of the issues with the game. Finally, once the game was ready and the launch date approached, Build a Rocket Boy lost one of their key executives, making the release of the game very difficult.

Conclusion:

Overall, Mindseye was very much a failure, 42% of reviews came back positive with only 4000 players on Steam. It’s a shame as the game could have had potential, but it seems like it was doomed from the start. Many gamers have been refusing to play the game because there are too few reviews to decide and most of the reviews are negative. Could Build a Rocket Boy bounce back from this hard fail or is their company a one-game wonder? Or should we say one game failure?
