How GTA 6 Is Already Breaking Records

(Hopefully) It's officially less than 1 year until GTA 6 finally hits our screens! After a 2-year trailer teaser wait and an incredible 12 years since GTA 5, could the release date officially be in sight for GTA 6? As we know, the game is extremely popular and GTA 6 has been even more anticipated than the previous editions. It's expected to sell 40 million copies within its first year and make $3 billion in revenue!

And despite still not being released, the game has already broken many records, some of which are Guinness World Records. And we've listed them all here. So let's dive in and take a look at how GTA 6 is already breaking records.

Did GTA 6 break records?

To begin with, all the way back in late 2023, Rockstar announced on Twitter and X that GTA 6 would be 'coming soon' and that a teaser trailer would be dropping later. As soon as Rockstar hit the Post Button, numbers began to grow. In 24 hours the tweet gained 1,8 million likes making it the most liked gaming tweet in history. It was a great start to the GTA 6 development journey, as a teaser tweet alone was already breaking records.

Did the GTA 6 trailer break the record?

So obviously, you're waiting to hear what record the GTA 6 trailer 1 broke? As you can guess, it did break a record... 3! The infamous GTA 6 trailer 1 which was released December 4th, 2023, broke 3 Guinness World Records:

Most viewed video game reveal on YouTube in 24 hours with 90+ million views.
Most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours with non-music.
Most liked video game trailer on YouTube with 8.9 million likes in 24 hours.

And at current time of writing, that same trailer has 261 million views, we can only assume this will keep growing and growing as anticipation grows.

Has GTA had a female protagonist?

So now viewers had watched the trailer and allowed its vague (but exciting) plotline and concept to settle, another record was brewing. This time, it was a GTA inside record. GTA 6 was the first GTA game to include a female as its main character. The leading characters are Jason and Lucia, a male and female duo who appear to take on a Bonnie and Clyde-type relationship. Players can choose which player they game as, we assume this will lead to slightly different gameplay depending on your character pick.

How many views did GTA 6 Trailer 2 get in 24 hours?

After hearing the heart-breaking news that GTA 6 would be releasing in 2026 and not in 2025 like planned, Rockstar attempted to patch this heartbreak up with a temporary fix, the GTA 6 trailer 2. It's been revealed that the second trailer gained over 475 million views across numerous platforms like YouTube, Instagram and Twitter within 24 hours. Before this release, Marvel held the title with 365 million views on their movie trailer in 24 hours, the movie of course was for the first Deadpool and Wolverine trailer. It was clear that after such a dry spell, Rockstar had provided fans with just enough to prove they were on top and know what they're doing, beating yet another world record just solidified it.

How many years are there between GTA 5 and GTA 6?

But now we'd been given an official release date of May 26th, 2026, fans began to put together just how long we'd been waiting between the GTA 5 release and GTA 6. If calculated properly, there's been an impressive 4634 days between the two games, that's over a decade! (17th September 2013 - 26th May 2026) It's assumed that this is the longest gap between the two video game series to release.

How much would GTA 6 cost?

And finally, although not confirmed, we may have another record about to be broken looming over us. There are talks that GTA 6 will be priced at over £100, with a rumour that it'll be a minimum of £80. This comes after Mario Kart World was revealed to be around £60, fans think that Rockstar will take advantage of this. If the game does end up being £100+, it would be the most expensive video game of all time. And to be honest, if it does manage a £100+ price tag, we wouldn't be too shocked, many people have already said they're prepared to pay a hefty price for the game, would you?
